The A-48 to Conil: 150 minutes and the first Atlantic coves
Conil de la Frontera is the largest of the southern Costa de la Luz beach towns, and the drive follows the same corridor as Vejer for another fifteen minutes: AP-7 to Guadiaro, the N-340 through Algeciras and Tarifa, then the A-48 north to the Conil exit. One hundred and fifty minutes from the arrivals hall, €259, tolls not included, and we ask for 48 hours' notice.
The town is a white grid above a long beach, with the old fishing quarter and the church tower at its heart and newer streets spreading east. To the north the coast breaks into a series of coves, Fuente del Gallo, Roche and Cala del Aceite, where the hotels and villa estates are; to the south the Playa de la Fontanilla and the Bateles beach run straight into town.
Old town, Fuente del Gallo and the Roche estates
Conil's old town has narrow streets that are closed to traffic on summer evenings when the terraces open, and the driver stops at the nearest point, usually around the Plaza de Santa Catalina or the market. Hotels in Fuente del Gallo, on the cliff road north of town, have their own entrances and car parks; the Roche estates and the Cala del Aceite hotels further north are gated and need the villa name.
Addresses in the newer streets are normal, but rentals in the coves often use the name of the urbanisation rather than the street; give us both if you can, and the phone number of the agency in case a barrier code has changed.
Families, tuna season and the summer crowd
Conil is the busiest of these towns in July and August, when Spanish families fill every apartment and the evening paseo along the front is packed. Arrivals then are best planned for before 19:00, when the old-town streets are still open; the driver knows the diversions and gets you as close as the rules allow at any hour.
Like Zahara, Conil lives from the almadraba tuna in spring, and the restaurants around the port serve it from May. The beaches are wide and shallow, good with small children, and child seats are free in our cars; add them in the form and they are ready before departure.

Local tips for your arrival
- Summer evenings close the old-town streets: arrive before 19:00 if your flat is in the centre, or expect a short walk.
- Coves north of town use urbanisation names; give the estate and the villa number, plus the agency's phone.
- Book 48 hours ahead: Conil is one of our longest routes and the car is dedicated to your journey.
- The town beach is shallow and wide, ideal with small children; child seats are free in the booking form.
Back to the airport from Conil de la Frontera
For the return the driver collects you at the hotel entrance or the nearest open point to your flat, and takes the A-48, the N-340 and the AP-7 back to Málaga in 150 minutes. Add two hours at the terminal, two and a half in summer and for flights outside Schengen, so an 18:00 flight means leaving Conil at about 13:30. On summer Sundays the N-340 around Tarifa can be slow with beach traffic, which we take into account when we confirm the time.

How long does a transfer from Málaga Airport to Conil take?
About 150 minutes for 215 kilometres: motorway to Guadiaro, the N-340 past Algeciras and Tarifa, then the A-48. A comfort stop can be requested when booking; the fixed fare is €259 for a sedan.
Are the Roche and Fuente del Gallo hotels the same price as Conil town?
Yes. The €259 fare covers the whole municipality: the town, Fuente del Gallo, Roche, Cala del Aceite and the beaches south of the centre.
Is it worth flying to Málaga rather than Jerez or Seville for Conil?
Málaga has far more flights and often better times and prices; the price of that is a longer transfer, two and a half hours against about an hour from Jerez. Many guests find the flight choice outweighs the extra road time.
Where does the driver meet me at Málaga Airport?
In the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, holding a sign with your name. All flights, including Terminal 2 arrivals, exit through the same hall.
