Past the end of the motorway: the A-7 to La Alcaidesa
La Alcaidesa lies just beyond Sotogrande, where the toll motorway has already ended and the A-7 continues as a free dual carriageway towards San Roque and the bay of Gibraltar. The driver leaves at the Alcaidesa exit about 85 minutes after leaving the terminal. The €155 fare does not include tolls: the AP-7 sections are paid separately if you choose that road. From the exit the estate roads climb quickly to the golf and drop the other way to the beach.
This is an estate built on a slope between two golf courses and the sea, with the Rock of Gibraltar filling the view from most terraces. The developments are grouped by name, from the beachside apartments at Alcaidesa Playa to the villas up by the club house, and the gates and roundabouts are laid out in a way that makes the exact development name essential.
Links and Heathland: golf at the edge of the Strait
La Alcaidesa is known for its two courses, the Links course by the sea, one of the few true links layouts in Spain, and the Heathland course higher up. Golfers make up a large share of our arrivals here. Two players with clubs and cases fit the estate car; four players travel in the minivan with the bags flat.
The club house is on the way in from the exit, so a drop for players who want to play on arrival day is a small detour; write the tee time in the booking notes and the driver plans around it. The wind off the Strait is part of the golf here, and the weather can differ from Marbella an hour east.
A beach estate with Gibraltar next door
Alcaidesa Playa is a long, wild stretch of sand facing the Rock, with a marina at the eastern end. The estate is quiet and residential and has a small commercial centre with a supermarket and a few restaurants; for more choice, Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro and Sotogrande are ten minutes east and the frontier at La Línea fifteen minutes west.
Families come for the space and the beach, and the estate is easy with a pushchair on the paved paths. Child seats are free; add them in the form. Rentals here almost always have a barrier or a lodge, so give us the development name and the phone number of the agent in case the registration has not been done.

Local tips for your arrival
- Give the development name exactly as the agency writes it; the estate is a maze of roundabouts and similar-looking gates.
- Playing on arrival day? Put the tee time in the notes: the club house is on the way in.
- The Strait can be windy when Marbella is calm; a light jacket for the first evening is worth packing on top.
- Gibraltar is fifteen minutes away: ask us for a fixed price for a day trip if you want to leave the car at home.
Back to the airport from La Alcaidesa
For the return the driver collects you at the apartment barrier, the villa gate or the club house, and joins the A-7 and then the AP-7 at Guadiaro; the airport is 85 minutes away. Allow two hours at the terminal, two and a half in summer and for flights to the UK or elsewhere outside Schengen, so an 11:00 flight means leaving La Alcaidesa around 07:35. The driver waits fifteen minutes free at the door and calls when he arrives.
