Two Casares: the beach at the motorway and the village on the rock

Casares is a municipality with a split personality. Casares Costa is the strip of beach, golf and apartment estates on the coast between Estepona and Manilva, right by the AP-7; the village of Casares is fourteen kilometres inland, piled on a crag beneath a castle. Both share the €125 fare and the 70-minute estimate, but they are very different arrivals, so tell us which one you mean.

For the coast, the driver leaves the motorway at the Casares exit and is at the beach or the golf estate within minutes. For the village he takes the same exit and then the MA-8300, a road that climbs through cork oaks with the village appearing suddenly above a bend. The climb adds ten to fifteen minutes on top of the motorway hour.

Finca Cortesín, golf estates and the beach clubs

Casares Costa is best known for Finca Cortesín, the resort and championship course above the motorway, which has its own page on this site. Around it, Doña Julia Golf, Casares del Sol and the Bahía de Casares developments spread between the golf and the sea, and the beach at Playa Ancha has clubs that fill up in July.

Most of these estates have barriers with intercoms rather than staffed gates. Have the agency's number ready and give us the estate name and block; the driver takes the car to your door rather than the estate entrance. Golfers with clubs travel in the estate car or minivan, both of which take the bags flat.

Arriving in the village: streets, steps and the last hundred metres

Casares village is one of the most photographed in Andalusia and one of the hardest to drive in. The streets are single width, many end in steps and the centre is closed to cars; the driver stops at the top of the village by the car park and the bus turning area, and walks with you down to the house. Pack so that a five-minute walk with the bags is comfortable.

Rentals here are usually village houses with a key-holder in the village itself. Ask for their phone number before you fly and put it in the booking notes; on arrival the driver can call ahead so someone is waiting at the door.

Local tips for your arrival

  • Say village or coast when you book: the fare is the same but the arrival is completely different.
  • Village houses are reached on foot from the upper car park; a soft bag beats a hard suitcase on the steps.
  • Coastal estates use intercom barriers: keep the agency's phone number with you.
  • The village is a good half-day trip from the coast; ask us for a fixed price if you stay on the beach and want to visit.

Back to the airport from Casares

Return pickups on the coast are at the estate barrier or the resort entrance; in the village the driver waits at the upper car park at the agreed time and helps carry the bags up. From the coast the airport is 65 to 70 minutes, from the village about 85, so for an 11:30 flight we suggest a pickup at 08:15 from the coast and 08:00 from the village, with an extra half hour in summer or for flights outside Schengen.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Casares?

A private sedan for up to 4 passengers costs €125 one way; the estate €150 and the minivan for up to 8 passengers €188. Prices include luggage and VAT. Tolls are not included: we take the toll-free A-7 and, if you prefer the AP-7 motorway, the toll is paid separately.

How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Casares?

About 70 minutes for 100 km, using the AP-7 motorway where available. Summer weekends can add 10 to 20 minutes.

Do you go to Casares village or only to the coast?

Both. The fixed price covers Casares village, Casares Costa and Finca Cortesín; just choose the address when booking.

Is the price the same for Casares village and Casares Costa?

Yes, €125 for a sedan to either. The village is further and takes ten to fifteen minutes longer on the mountain road, but we keep one fare for the whole municipality.

Can the car reach my house in Casares village?

Almost never to the door: the centre is closed to traffic and the lanes are stepped. The driver stops at the upper car park and walks down with you and the luggage, which usually takes five minutes.

We are staying at a golf estate in Casares Costa; how do we find the right entrance?

Give us the estate name and your block or house number. The driver knows the barriers along this stretch and takes the car to your door; if the intercom code has changed, he phones the agency with you.

Where does the driver meet me at Málaga Airport?

In the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, holding a sign with your name. All flights, including Terminal 2 arrivals, exit through the same hall.
