Around the bay to the port of Algeciras
Algeciras sits on the western side of the bay opposite Gibraltar, and it is above all a port: the ferries to Ceuta and Tangier leave from here, and a large share of our transfers end at the maritime terminal. The driver takes the AP-7 to Guadiaro, the free A-7 around the bay past San Roque and Los Barrios, and comes down into the city with the port on the left. Ninety minutes from the arrivals hall, €169. Tolls are not included.
The city itself climbs from the port up to the Plaza Alta and the market, with the newer districts spreading north along the bay. Hotels are concentrated near the port and around the Paseo Marítimo; addresses are ordinary streets and the driver stops at the door, including at the ferry terminal forecourt.
Catching a ferry to Morocco: timings that work
If you are connecting to a ferry, tell us the departure time and the company when you book. The fast ferries to Tangier Med and Ceuta ask passengers to be at the terminal well before sailing for passport control and vehicle loading; we plan the pickup at the airport so that you arrive with the margin the operator recommends, and the driver drops you at the terminal entrance rather than the car parks.
In summer, especially around the Operación Paso del Estrecho in July and August, the port area is busy with families driving to Morocco and the roads into Algeciras slow down. On those dates we allow extra time and, if the ferry is early in the morning, suggest sleeping in Algeciras the night before.
A working city with Tarifa and the parks next door
Algeciras is not a beach resort, and people who book it are usually catching a ferry, working in the port or using the city as a base for the Los Alcornocales and Estrecho natural parks. Getares and Rinconcillo are the local beaches on either side of the port, and Tarifa is twenty-five minutes down the N-340 for the Atlantic beaches and the kitesurfing.
The city is a good place to stop for lunch on the way to the Costa de la Luz: the Plaza Alta and the market streets are five minutes from the motorway, and a short stop can be arranged when you book a longer route.

Local tips for your arrival
- Catching a ferry? Put the sailing time and company in the notes and we plan the pickup around the operator's check-in margin.
- July and August bring the Paso del Estrecho traffic to the port roads; allow extra time or sleep in the city the night before an early boat.
- The terminal has a proper forecourt: the driver stops at the entrance, not in the car parks.
- Tarifa and the Atlantic beaches are 25 minutes further; ask us for a combined price if you go on.
Back to the airport from Algeciras
For the return, or for guests arriving by ferry from Morocco, the driver waits at the terminal entrance or your hotel door and takes the A-7 around the bay to the AP-7; the airport is 90 minutes away. Add two hours at the terminal, two and a half in summer and for flights outside Schengen, so a 15:00 flight means leaving Algeciras at about 11:30. Ferry arrivals from Tangier can run late, so tell us the sailing and the driver tracks it as he would a flight.

About 90 minutes for 137 km, using the AP-7 motorway where available. Summer weekends can add 10 to 20 minutes.
Can you time the transfer for my ferry to Morocco?
Yes. Give us the ferry departure and terminal and we schedule the airport pickup so you arrive at least one hour before boarding.
Do you drop off at the Algeciras ferry terminal?
Yes, at the entrance of the maritime terminal where the Ceuta and Tangier ferries leave. Give us the sailing time when you book and we set the airport pickup so you arrive with the operator's recommended margin.
How long does it take from Málaga Airport to Algeciras?
About 90 minutes in normal traffic: AP-7 to Guadiaro, then the A-7 around the bay. In late July and August the last stretch into the port can be slower because of the summer crossing to Morocco.
Is Algeciras cheaper than Gibraltar even though it is further?
Slightly: €169 against €175. The distance is similar around the bay and there is no frontier drop, so the fare is a little lower.
Where does the driver meet me at Málaga Airport?
In the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, holding a sign with your name. All flights, including Terminal 2 arrivals, exit through the same hall.
