The tunnel under the town and the two San Pedros

San Pedro is the last Marbella district before Estepona, and the motorway now passes beneath it: the AP-7 runs through the San Pedro tunnel, so the driver takes the exit just before it and comes down the Avenida Marqués del Duero, the Bulevar. Fifty-five minutes from the arrivals hall, most of them at motorway speed, with the toll built into the €95 fare.

There are really two San Pedros. North of the old N-340 is the town proper, with the church square, the market and the streets where residents live. South of it, past the Bulevar, the newer Nueva Alcántara area runs down to the promenade and the beach. Addresses in the first are ordinary streets; in the second they tend to be complexes with names, so tell us which.

Linda Vista, Cortijo Blanco and the beachside estates

West of the town the beach-side urbanisations follow one another: Linda Vista Baja, Cortijo Blanco, El Saladillo just over the Estepona line. They sit below the coastal road and are entered through underpasses that the satnav does not always understand. Our drivers use them every day, which is the difference between a car at your gate and a call from the wrong side of the dual carriageway.

Guadalmina, immediately west of the San Pedro river, has its own page because it is a large area with two golf courses and its own access roads; the price is the same as San Pedro. If your rental says San Pedro but the map shows the Guadalmina Golf course next door, either page will get you the right fare.

A working town: markets, festivals and Thursday mornings

San Pedro is where a lot of Marbella's residents shop and live, and it keeps a town timetable. The Thursday street market fills the streets around the football ground and the fairground from early morning until about 14:00; if you arrive on a Thursday morning the driver may approach from the Bulevar side to avoid it. The San Pedro fair in October closes the centre for several evenings.

The Bulevar, a long landscaped promenade built over the tunnel, is where the cafés and playgrounds are, and it makes the town unusually easy for families with pushchairs. Ask for child seats on the form; they are already fitted when the car reaches the airport.

Local tips for your arrival

  • Say whether you are north of the Bulevar (town) or south of it (Nueva Alcántara, beach): it changes the approach road.
  • Thursday morning is market day; arrivals between 08:00 and 14:00 take a different route into the centre.
  • Beachside estates below the A-7 are reached through underpasses; give the estate name and the driver picks the right one.
  • The promenade runs all the way to Puerto Banús: a flat walk or cycle if you stay near the beach.

Back to the airport from San Pedro Alcántara

For the return we collect you at the door, whether that is a street in the old town or a gate in Linda Vista, and rejoin the AP-7 through the San Pedro tunnel; the run to the airport is 55 minutes. Add two hours at the terminal, two and a half in summer or for flights outside Schengen, so an 11:00 flight means a pickup close to 07:55. Thursday mornings we allow a few extra minutes for the market traffic around the centre.

How long does it take from Málaga Airport to San Pedro Alcántara?

Around 55 minutes using the AP-7 toll motorway. Without the toll, count on 70 minutes or more in July and August.

Is San Pedro Alcántara part of Marbella or a separate town?

It is a district of the municipality of Marbella with the feel of a separate town: its own centre, market and fair. For transfers it has its own fixed price, €95 for a sedan, because it is ten kilometres west of Marbella centre.

Our apartment is in a beachside estate below the motorway; can the car reach it?

Yes. The estates south of the A-7, such as Linda Vista and Cortijo Blanco, are entered through underpasses. The driver uses them daily and takes the car to your gate, not to the main road.

Do you also cover Guadalmina at the San Pedro price?

Yes, Guadalmina Alta and Baja are €95 as well. There is a separate Guadalmina page with the golf details, but the fare and the vehicle options are identical.

Where does the driver meet me at Málaga Airport?

In the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, holding a sign with your name. All flights, including Terminal 2 arrivals, exit through the same hall.
