Inland through the cork forests: the A-381 to Jerez
Jerez is reached from Málaga by the road through the middle rather than the coast. After the AP-7 and the A-7 to Los Barrios, the driver takes the A-381, a dual carriageway that crosses the Los Alcornocales natural park for seventy kilometres of cork oaks and reservoirs before dropping into the vineyards around Jerez. Two hours forty in total, 240 kilometres, €289, tolls not included, and 48 hours' notice please.
The city is big and flat, with a historic centre of bodegas, palaces and squares that is partly pedestrian, and wide avenues around it. Hotels in the centre are reached from the nearest open street, often the Alameda Cristina or the Plaza del Arenal side; hotels on the avenues and near the station have forecourts. Jerez's own airport has few flights, which is why many visitors fly to Málaga and book the transfer.
Bodegas, horses and the two big weeks
Visitors come to Jerez for the sherry bodegas, most of which are in the old centre and can be walked between, and for the horses of the Royal Andalusian School. Two weeks change the city: the Feria del Caballo in May, when the fairground fills for a week and the centre's hotels are full, and the motorcycle grand prix at the circuit, when the roads in from the east are slow. Tell us your dates and we plan the arrival time around them.
The circuit is on the eastern edge of the city, ten minutes from the centre; for race weekends we drop at the circuit gates or your hotel as you prefer, and the driver knows the traffic plan the police set up for those days.
Station, El Puerto and the beaches of the bay
Jerez railway station, on the eastern side of the centre, has AVE and regional trains to Seville, Madrid and Cádiz; a drop there is direct. El Puerto de Santa María and its beaches are twenty minutes south, Cádiz forty and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the third sherry town at the mouth of the Guadalquivir, half an hour north-west. We quote fixed prices for all of these if you ask when booking.
Jerez is the hottest of our destinations in summer, inland and away from the sea breeze; our vehicles are air-conditioned and the driver carries water for the long routes. Child seats are free and fitted before departure, so a family of four with a baby travels in the same sedan.

Local tips for your arrival
- Feria del Caballo in May and the motorcycle grand prix weekend fill the city: tell us your dates and we plan the arrival.
- Centre hotels are reached from the nearest open street; ask the hotel where taxis stop and add it to the notes.
- Combining train and transfer? The station is a direct drop and we can collect you there too.
- Inland Jerez is hot in summer: keep water and hats in hand luggage for the walk from the car.
Back to the airport from Jerez de la Frontera
For the return the driver collects you at the hotel, the station or the circuit and takes the A-381 back through the park to the coast and the AP-7; the airport is 160 minutes away. Add two hours at the terminal, two and a half in summer and for flights outside Schengen, so an 18:00 flight means leaving Jerez at about 13:20. During the Feria and the grand prix weekend we add fifteen minutes for the traffic plan around the city.
